Irvine’s Parks Rank #2 in the Nation, and They’re Right Outside Your Door

There’s a reason life in Irvine feels so connected to the outdoors. From neighborhood parks and resort-style amenities to miles of trails that invite you to walk, bike and explore, open space is not simply an added benefit here, it’s part of everyday life.

That commitment has once again earned national recognition. Irvine’s park system was ranked second best in the nation among large U.S. cities in The Trust for Public Land’s annual ParkScore® rankings, marking the second consecutive year the city has earned this distinction. More than nine out of 10 Irvine residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, well above the national average, and it shows in the way the city is designed.

Here, a spontaneous afternoon outside, a bike ride after work or a weekend picnic does not require a detailed plan. It is simply part of the rhythm of living in Irvine.

Parks, Pools and More Steps from Home

In the Villages of Irvine, that connection to outdoor living becomes even more personal. Thoughtfully planned neighborhoods place residents close to the places that make daily life feel more vibrant: inviting parks, scenic paseos, playgrounds, sports courts and resort-style pools designed for gathering, relaxing and making the most of Southern California’s year-round sunshine.

It is the kind of convenience that transforms everyday moments. Children can spend the afternoon at the playground. Neighbors can meet for an evening walk. Weekends can begin with a swim, a bike ride or a picnic close to home.

Across the Villages, outdoor amenities are woven into the fabric of each neighborhood, creating opportunities to get outside, stay active and connect with the community. Whether you are looking for a peaceful place to recharge or a lively setting for family time, there is always something nearby to enjoy.

A City Designed to Keep You Moving

Irvine’s award-winning park system is supported by a remarkable network of trails and open spaces. These pathways connect neighborhoods with nature, helping make walking and biking an easy part of daily life.

One of the city’s most recognizable routes is the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, often known as JOST. This linear park and trail corridor travels diagonally through Irvine along Jeffrey Road, creating a green connection between neighborhoods, parks and open space. Its landscaped paths offer residents a place to walk, run and bike while experiencing a different side of the city, one shaped by thoughtful planning and a long-standing commitment to the outdoors.

And the trail continues to grow.

A new bicycle and pedestrian bridge has completed the northern extension of the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, creating a vital link from Barranca Parkway to the 5 Freeway. This 1.5-mile extension brings the full corridor to approximately five miles, offering an even more seamless route for residents to move through the heart of Irvine on foot or by bike.

The new bridge is more than an overpass, it is another meaningful connection between Irvine’s neighborhoods and its remarkable open spaces. Looking ahead, a future planned section is expected to further expand the trail’s reach, helping create a continuous path from the Pacific Ocean toward the Santa Ana Mountains and Cleveland National Forest.

Enjoy The Best of Irvine

Irvine’s parks are nationally recognized, but their greatest value is found in the everyday moments they make possible. A morning stroll. A family bike ride. An afternoon by the pool. A nearby trail that leads somewhere new. In the Villages of Irvine, living close to parks, trails and resort-style amenities makes it easy to embrace it all, every day.
