Elementary - High School

For decades, the Irvine Unified School District has produced some of the highest achieving students in California.

According to the IUSD, Irvine's schools collectively scored 888 (on a scale of 200-1000) on California's Academic Performance Index (API) tests; among the best in the state. Irvine high school students score well above both state and national averages on their SATs, and 90% of them go on to college. In May 2008, the OC Register ranked all four of Irvine's comprehensive high schools (Northwood, University, Irvine and Woodbridge) among the county's top 10.

The strength of the school system is due to the safety and stability of the community, dedicated parent involvement, and a unique public-private partnership that puts kids first.

This partnership between the City of Irvine, the Irvine Unified School District, and the Irvine Company gives the schools both autonomy and unprecedented support. This has created an environment that draws the best teachers and administrators from around the country. As a result, standards have been consistently high, and Irvine students have flourished.

The Irvine Company and The Donald Bren Foundation have long been instrumental in fostering educational excellence in Irvine, from early childhood development programs through university research grants. In April 2006, the Irvine Company announced a gift of $20 million to the Irvine Unified School District. The gift - believed to be one of the largest financial contributions from a private company to a California public school district - created an Excellence in Education Enrichment Fund to support elementary level programs in art, music and science over a ten year period.
