Initially built around the University of California at Irvine (UCI) - now one of the highest ranking state Universities in the nation - the City of Irvine has created an environment that enables high academic achievement from pre-K through doctoral programs.

Irvine's public schools are among the highest ranking in the nation. Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) campuses routinely earn rankings among the county’s Orange County Register's annual evaluation of the best elementary, middle and high schools. In the year 2010, all five of IUSD's middle schools ranked in the newspaper's top seven. In addition, Newsweek magazine regularly ranks Irvine’s comprehensive high schools among the best in the nation (IUSD, 2010). Recently ranked by Newsweek, is University High School as the 8th best high school in the nation and the only California high school to be in the top 30 among the 500 ranked. This award-winning school boasts an average SAT score of 1920 and a 98% graduation rate.
