Distinguished College and University Communities

In 1959, the Irvine Company donated 1000 acres of land for the creation of the University of California at Irvine campus. According to BusinessWeek, UCI has ranks within the top 2% of the nation's public universities, and has established itself as a major research center, earning five spots in the highly regarded Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index of 2005. U.S. News & World Report ranked UCI as the 44th best university in the nation in 2008.

Research initiatives at UCI have yielded significant advances in the fields of atmospheric science and neurobiology, and research conducted at UCI's Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences has prompted the National Security Agency to designate UCI a 'National Center of Academic Excellence'.

UCI's faculty includes three Nobel laureates, and its research initiatives have drawn some of the most creative minds from around the world. Every year, UCI delivers top-tier talent to Irvine's thriving business community.

UCI is one component of a distinguished college and university community that has developed in and around the City of Irvine. Other notable institutes of higher education in the area include Concordia University, Chapman University, Cal State Fullerton, Irvine Valley College, Pepperdine's Irvine Graduate Campus, and USC's Orange County Center.
